A Classic Style
The Navy Bean Pie, a Nation of Islam staple dessert, was created by Sis Mary Almanza Islam from Detroit, Michigan. It was made to be a substitute to the Sweet Potato Pie as a healthier option, yet still wholesome and appetizing. It is comprised of simple ingredients: Butter, Cane Sugar, Evaporated Milk, Unbleached Flour, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Salt, Vanilla Flavor, and of course the magnificent Navy Bean. The Navy Bean has numerous healing properties. They are a good source of protein, vitamin B1 and are packed with minerals, such as phosphorus, copper, magnesium and iron. They have the ability to lower cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar, provide increased levels of energy, ward off radiation, promote deep sleep, among a plethora of other proficiencies. Expect when indulging in a Navy Bean Pie to also be intaking something of much nutritional value. It is a classic dessert of the Black Muslim, originating in the 1930's, prepared to be shared with the entire world, transcending both color and religious background. We have adopted this traditional recipe, but with a twist, by adding some additional particularly special ingredients.
